Prophets of Rage is the Public Enemy documentary presented by BBC. Dope graff visuals and in-depth interviews with Chuck D, Professor Griff and Flavor Flav. Ties in graphic design and comics to showcase the black power hip-hop super group. In the 80s Public Enemy had a huge impact on me as an upcoming illustrator. For a youth the music was revolutionary to the core. Had influence on some of my other favorites like Cypress Hill and N.W.A. The hardcore sounds were carried with an image of militancy and street conscious lyrics. Yeah boy!
So, League of Legends World Championship 2014 is coming. The animation style is so on point you have to see it to believe it. The trailer mixes traditional 2D aesthetics with mind bending CGI to create an imaginative combo. Joining the gamers and the game environment for one epic ride. The lighting is as stylized as the characters. All I can say is WHOA!
Listening to inspiring podcasts has been motivating me to push my concept art to the next level. Interviews with freelancers and industry insiders reveals lots of best practices. It has been fun to start back at square one by taking note of what other illustrators are doing. One problem. Finding new podcasts on the iPhone is less than optimal. There is an obvious challenge to indexing audio. The search is only going to pick up keywords or present the most popular. Thankfully, I have taken the time to hunt down some great shows.
